Hikers To Host Outdoor Events

The York Hiking Club will host three events in March. Hikers are encouraged to monitor the weather forecast and dress appropriately. For details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com.

A 3-mile hike will be held on Sunday, March 13, at William Kain Park. Hikers will meet in the Parking Lot 3 on Sparton Road, just off Hess Farm Road, York, and depart at noon. For details, contact Kim Pavlick and Rafael Ruiz at 717-650-0253.

A 12-mile hike will be held on Sunday, March 20, in the Jim Thorpe area at Mauch Chunk Lake. Hikers will spend much of the time on the old Switchback Railroad and travel up Pisgah Plane to Pisgah Vista, if open. Hikers should bring good footwear, snacks, lunch, and water. If carpooling, attendees should meet at the east parking lot near Red Robin at the Galleria Mall to depart at 6:30 a.m. There is a carpool fee. Individuals meeting at the trailhead should arrive by 8:30 a.m. at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, 625 Lentz Trail, Jim Thorpe. For details, contact David Lukes at 717-818-4751 or captainskit@gmail.com.

A 6-mile hike on the Turkey Hill Trail and Enola Low Grade Rail Trail loop will take place on Sunday, March 27. The trail could be muddy depending on the weather. Hiking poles could be useful, and hikers should bring snacks and water. Hikers will depart at 10 a.m. from the Turkey Hill Overlook Trail.
