Pianist Releases New Recordings

Jamaican-born pianist Maria Thompson Corley has announced that "Soulscapes 2" was released in November 2021. The album is the follow-up to Corley's 2006 "Soulscapes," a collection of solo piano music by women of African descent.

"Soulscapes 2" is a diverse, virtuoso collection of music composed by women with roots in Africa, the United Kingdom, Belize, Jamaica, Cuba, Canada, Bermuda and the United States. It is available online from MSR Classics and on all major digital music platforms.

The engineer for the recording was Mike Furst of Triforce Studios. Lars Potteiger, music director at Lancaster's Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, invited Corley to record "Soulscapes 2" in the church sanctuary.

Additionally, "Soul Sanctuary" was released in February. It is a disc of Corley's arrangements of spirituals and hymns, recorded with Maria Clark, soprano, and Ismail Akbar, cello. The tracks include "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah," "Steal Away," His Name So Sweet," "Deep River" and "Wade in the Water."

Aside from being a pianist, Corley is a voice actor, an award-winning poet and an author. She has contributed to Broad Street Review, an online arts magazine, and blogged for Huffington Post.
