Event To Highlight Native American Culture

The Arts at Millersville University's We The People First Fridays will present "We're Still Here" on Friday, April 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster. The event will celebrate Native American culture through performances of traditional music and dance by Lancaster's Circle Legacy Center (CLC), including an opportunity for audience members to participate. The interactive program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Steinman Hall.

On display in the Lyet Lobby will be the MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls) Memorial Grove, which will feature 20 red dresses. Each dress stands for a missing or murdered relative, representing a portion of thousands of people now missing or murdered. The display will remain available through Saturday, April 9. It is presented by Lora and Jon Bennett, members of the Lawilowan American Indian Festival (LAIF) and Muddy Run Powwow.

Admission to the First Fridays event is free, but freewill donations will be accepted to support the MMIP families. More information about this effort will be available at the event; readers may also visit http://www.facebook.com/mmipandfamilies/.
