Singers Sought For Community Choir

As part of the three-day sesquicentennial celebration in Parkesburg to commemorate the borough's 150th anniversary, a community choir will sing during a worship in the park program set for Sunday, May 22, at 11 a.m.

The Parkesburg Churches' Community Choir is currently seeking singers age 12 and over to join the choir, which will be led by Ashley Radcliff, the music director at Parkesburg United Methodist Church (UMC). Rehearsals have been set for Saturdays, April 30 and May 14, at 10 a.m. at Parkesburg UMC, 411 Main St., Parkesburg. "It's not a professional choir, so all are welcome," she said.

So far, choir members from Parkesburg UMC will participate, but Radcliff is seeking singers from other area churches as well. "The stage we are using can fit up to 75 (people). We're hoping to make it a big group," she said.

Those who cannot attend rehearsals may contact Radcliff and she will provide them with the music and a practice track to sing along to.

The group will sing two traditional hymn arrangements during the worship in the park. "A few of the churches are offering contemporary worship groups, but they wanted a community choir as well," she noted.

Radcliff noted that the singers could get together again as part of an ongoing performance group, similar to the Octorara Community Band. "I am kind of excited to see who shows up," she stated. "It will be good to meet some new people and see if it (becomes) a longer-term project."
