Rotary Club Recognizes Contest Winners

The Hershey Rotary Club has announced the winners of its 2021-22 Four-Way Speech Contest, which was open to students at Middletown Area High School, Hershey High School and the Milton Hershey School. Students were asked to prepare a 5-minute speech based on Rotary's Four-Way Test, which requires people to ask four questions: "What is truth?" and "Is it fair to all concerned?" as well as "Will the truth build goodwill and friendships?" and "Will the truth be beneficial to all concerned?"

Entries were submitted electronically, and teachers, parents or guardians were required to validate that the students' work was original. The speeches were then evaluated by a panel of judges.

Taylor Kauffman won first place, and Allyson Salisbury placed second; both students are juniors at the Milton Hershey School. Taylor plans to attend college to pursue a degree in criminal justice. Allyson plans to attend Thaddeus Stevens College with the goal of becoming a plumber or welder.

Taylor will advance to the local Rotary District 7390 contest and will compete against students from across the district for additional recognition and monetary awards. The final winner is to be announced by the district in April.
