The York Hiking Club will host four events in April. In the case of inclement weather, contact the hike leader for updates. For additional details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com.

On Sunday, April 10, individuals may meet in William Kain Park's parking lot 3 on Sparton Road, just off Hess Farm Road, to depart at noon for a hike of approximately 3 miles. Attendees will walk on the road for a short distance to connect with trail 5 and then walk around part of Lake Redman, passing through the bird sanctuary toward the end of the hike. There will be a few short, mild climbs. For more information, call hike leaders Kim Pavlick and Rafael Ruiz at 717-650-0253.

A 13-mile hike on Sunday, April 17, will include trails in Greenbrier State Park in Maryland, a portion of the Appalachian Trail and a visit to Annapolis Rock. Those who wish to carpool may meet at the I-83 and Maryland 439 Park & Ride at exit 36 for a 7:30 a.m. departure. For those meeting at the park, the parking lot address is roughly 8134 Mountain Laurel Road, Boonsboro, Md.; this is not the main lot. There is a carpool fee as well as a parking fee. The annual flower hike and covered dish meal will take place on Sunday, April 24, at the JPJ Cabin, 1145 Furnace Road, Airville. At 10:30 a.m., attendees may look for spring flowers during either a short hike or a longer hike. The meal will begin at 1:30 p.m., and anyone planning to attend is asked to call organizer Sarah Tateosian at 717-741-2652 to tell her what covered dish they plan to bring.

A 4.6-mile hike around part of Lake Redman will be offered on Saturday, April 30. Participants should meet at the Lake Redman Activity Area at William Kain Park near Jacobus for a 10 a.m. departure. During the hike on a moderately challenging loop trail, participants will see the Lake Redman sign up close. They should wear hiking boots or trail shoes and bring snacks and water. Hiking poles are also recommended. Hike leaders Regina and George Haritos can be reached at 717-332-2221.
