Celebrate The Earth In Elizabethtown

Share your love for the planet at the second annual Earth 2 E-Town festival. The event will take place on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Fairgrounds, 900 E. High St.

"We'll have something for everyone," said Kelsey Grove, lead director for the festival. "This event is for all ages. It's educational, it's entertaining and it's a way for everyone to get involved. This is a community event put on by the community for the community."

The day will begin with a community-wide cleanup prior to the festival, featuring teams that will be assigned areas to focus on, Grove noted. "We'll have 24 teams with 160 individual volunteers," she stated. The Rotary Club of Elizabethtown will make a donation to the Wittel Farm in Elizabethtown for each pound of trash collected.

After the cleanup, the festival will open for the public. "We'll have live music from four different bands," Grove said, noting that Ukulele Uprising is among these groups. "We'll have a reptile show from Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary from 2 to 3 p.m. That's a free show sponsored by the Elizabethtown Rotary Club."

The festival will also feature information tables spotlighting area organizations focused on the environment. "We're calling these 'eco-info booths,' and we'll have different presenters sharing some type of information on different environmental topics," Grove remarked. Presenters will include the Lancaster County Beekeepers Society, which will have an observation beehive on-site, as well as http://www.amprevolt.com, which will provide a demonstration on converting gas vehicles to electric.

"We're working with the Lancaster County Pharmacists Association and the Elizabethtown Borough Police for a drug take-back table. People can bring their unneeded medication," Grove commented, noting that improper disposal of medication is an environmental hazard. Sloan's Pharmacy will make a financial donation to Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care per pound of medication collected.

Recycled crafts for children will be provided by Lancaster Creative Reuse, and free face painting will be offered. Six food trucks will be on-site as well, including Here We Dough and Rogue Chef.

"We're going to have an artisan pop-up shop from Trellis Marketplace in Elizabethtown," Grove stated. "It will feature Earth-centered vendors and people who work with natural or recycled materials." Vendors at the market will include Art of the Earth, selling functional pottery; Apothic Oils; Desert Dreams Design Studio, selling jewelry; and Chestnut Ridge Honey. Along with the artisan vendor market, Trellis will host a student art show featuring Earth Day-centered art from Elizabethtown Area High School students.

Grove noted that this year's expanded Earth 2 E-Town event would not be possible without the support of the Rotary Club of Elizabethtown. "We have partnered with them to make this even bigger and better than last year," she stated.

Earth 2 E-Town will be held rain or shine. For more information on the event, visit the Earth 2 E-Town Facebook page or email earth2etown@gmail.com.
