Veritas Academy To Present Musical

Veritas Academy, a private classical Christian school in Leola, will present the musical "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." at Leola Elementary School, 11 School Drive, Leola, at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 29 and 30, as well as at 2 p.m. matinee on April 30.

This junior version of the award-winning musical "Fiddler on the Roof" includes well-known songs from the original like "Matchmaker," "Tradition," and "Sunrise, Sunset." The production has a cast and crew of 40 seventh- through 12th-grade students. Johnny Adkins, a senior, plays the poor Jewish milkman Tevye, father of five daughters in the 1900s Russian village of Anatevka. Tevye is a man struggling to maintain the tradition of his faith and family and provide for his children in the face of an ever-changing and at times hostile society.

Playing Tevye's three oldest daughters - who each represent an increasingly progressive shift away from tradition - are freshman Meghan Spanjer as Tzeitel, freshman Lindy Harris as Hodel, and eighth-grader Greta Wenger as Chava. These three actresses have prior experience in the performing arts.

The show is directed by Jaime Hilton, head of the Veritas Theater Department. This is the fifth production that Hilton has directed for Veritas Academy.

Kylee Bowman, director of communications at Veritas, noted that the musical's themes align with one of Veritas' core values - Tradition Affirming.

There is a fee per person age 4 and up. Tickets are available by visiting http://www.veritasacademy.com/spring-play or calling the school at 717-556-0690.
