A container garden workshop will be offered by the Parkesburg Parks and Recreation Committee on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 9 a.m. The workshop, which will be held rain or shine, will take place under the pavilion in Minch Park, 111 West St., Parkesburg.

A fee will be charged per person. All plants and soil will be provided. Attendees should bring their own containers, measuring 12 inches or smaller. Gardening gloves are also recommended.

On the same day, a Kindness Rock painting station will be offered in the park. The Kindness Rock Project is a nationwide initiative where people paint small rocks with images or inspirational sayings and leave them for others to find and collect.

"It's a campaign that has taken off all over the country," explained committee member April Brade. "People take rocks, paint them and hide them. On the back is a label (with instructions) to post a photo to a Facebook page, hide it or keep it."

For the Kindness Rock painting project in Parkesburg, river rocks have been donated by Home Depot. Paint will also be provided.

"We are going to have paper plates and (people) can come back after the rocks have dried to pick them up," said Brade. "They can decorate their gardens with them or give them to their mother for Mother's Day."

In addition, the Parkesburg Free Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg, will hold a hanging basket sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 7. The flowering baskets will be suitable for Mother's Day gift-giving the following day, Sunday, May 8.
