A-Team Talent Show To Return At Wesley Church

After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the A-Team will hold the ninth edition of its talent show. The free event will take place on Sunday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at Wesley Church in Quarryville.

The A-Team is a special needs ministry that provides faith-based fellowship opportunities and activities for people of all ages from 5 to over 60, with many members in their late teens and early 20s. The group is open to those with any type of a special need. It is affiliated with Wesley Church, but it is not limited to members of any particular church.

"A lot of (the team members) didn't have the opportunity to participate in Bible school when they were younger," said Tami Shaub, special needs coordinator at Wesley Church.

Meeting twice a month, the group members take part in regular field trips and activities, but it is the talent show that is their favorite event. Shaub explained that the A-Team name was chosen by the members to represent how Awesome they are. They will endeavor to share that awesomeness at the talent show. "The students have practiced really hard on their group and individual acts," Shaub noted.

All of the A-Team members will participate in group and solo performances. There will be music, dancing and comedy. Many of the acts are inspired by this year's theme, based on the Beatles song "Come Together."

Shaub is pleased to see how well the talent show is supported by the community. "The first time we held the talent show, we didn't know what to expect," she shared, noting that she was surprised to see how well it was received, and that interest continues. Shaub added that she has been asked many times when the talent show would return.

Like other community members, people with disabilities have faced difficulties during the pandemic. "There's been a lot of emotional challenges for our students that we never thought would have happened," Shaub said.

The return of the talent show has generated great enthusiasm among the students. Having a chance to take center stage and perform is important to them. "We do hair and makeup for the girls before the show. We want them to feel like stars," Shaub said.

Wesley Church is located at 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville. The talent show has a Christian basis and is appropriate for audience members of all ages. There is no fee to attend, and no advance tickets are required. For more information, visit http://www.facebook.com/WesleyATeam.
