Parkesburg Lions To Participate In Sesquicentennial

The Parkesburg Lions Club, which is marking its 88th anniversary of service to the community this year, will be part of the Parkesburg Sesquicentennial Celebration, to be held from Friday to Sunday, May 20 to 22.

Eighty-eight rocks painted with lions will be hidden around town for people to find during the sesquicentennial weekend festivities. Those who find one of the special rocks are asked to bring it to the Lions Club table in the organizations tent to receive a small prize.

The Parkesburg Lions Club has been collecting plastics to earn free benches as part of recycling program offered by the Trex Company. In addition to collecting donations directly, the club has donation bins at the Parkesburg Library, Fulton Bank and Pine Creek Animal Hospital.

The Lions Club will place its first bench in the community on May 22. It will be located at the bus stop near the Parkesburg Library, 105 West St. This particular bench will be dedicated to Jim Norton, who recently passed away. Norton was a longtime Lions Club member and a past member of the Parkesburg Library Board. The community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony.

The Lions Club will have a float in the sesquicentennial parade, which will step off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Members of the Leo Club, which the Parkesburg Lions Club recently re-established at Octorara Junior-Senior High School, will be on the float and will toss candy to spectators.
