Marietta To Host Annual Parade, Service

The Marietta Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 30, at 11 a.m.

The parade will feature the Donegal High School (DHS) band, the Donegal Alumni Band, the Kiltie Band of York, and the Kracker Beez. Also in the line of march will be the Post 466 Legion Riders, the Lancaster Fencibles 79th PVI, the American Legion Post 466 Auxiliary honorary members, military veterans, various civic groups, Scouts, businesses, and Cylo. The DHS homecoming and prom queens will also be featured.

Each year, the parade committee sponsors an essay contest with the theme of "What Memorial Day Means to Me." The winners this year, Camryn Martin, Julia Slobozien, and Paige Umbel, will ride in the parade and read their essays at the memorial service to be held after the parade at the Marietta Cemetery. They will also receive a monetary award on behalf of the Marietta Charitable Trust and a certificate from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on behalf of state Rep. David S. Hickernell of the 98th District.

The memorial service will feature Col. Douglas Winton, a faculty member at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle. Also featured in the service will be guest singer Elizabeth Allen, a DHS student, along with the Kiltie Band of York and the DHS band.

The parade is organized by the Marietta Memorial Day parade committee.
