American Legion Riders To Host 10th Annual Bike Show

Motorcycles, live music, vendors and food will be featured at the 10th annual Bike Show being presented by the American Legion Riders of Morgantown on Saturday, June 4, from noon to 6 p.m. After being held at a different venue for the past several years, the Bike Show will return to Col. Jacob Morgan American Legion Post 537, 4499 N. Twin Valley Road, Morgantown.

Admission is free to spectators. "People that don't have bikes can come and enjoy the day as well," said event organizer Melissa Seifert, treasurer for the American Legion Riders. "To enter your bike in the show, there is a registration fee."

Trophies will be awarded in various classes, such as stock, custom, trike, tour stock, tour custom, antique and side car. There will also be a People's Choice award and a Commander's category. "Another motorcycle club, the Blue Comets of Schwenksville, who are familiar with bikes, will do the judging," noted Seifert.

The event will kick off with an opening ceremony. Amanda Faust will sing the national anthem and John Smyk will perform "God Bless the USA."

A highlight of the day will be live music by local bands, which will perform in the pavilion at the post. "We have four live bands lined up. Usually we only have three, but I was able to get a fourth this year," noted Seifert. "The cool part is they donate their time. They are happy to help us out."

Performing at the event will be JAM, an acoustic duet; Chowderhead, an '80s rock band; Drive Train, which will perform country music; and Cheap and Eze, a classic rock band.

The day will also include a Chinese auction and an opportunity to win prizes, including gift baskets. Visitors will also be able to shop from a variety of vendors and purchase food. The post auxiliary will sell hot dogs.

"We have food vendors and other vendors like Paparazzi, Scentsy and a T-shirt vendor," noted Seifert. "Plus, the Legion is open that day if people want to stop in. We only do one fundraiser a year, so we make it a big (event)."

Proceeds from the Bike Show will benefit local nonprofit organizations. Past recipients have included David's Drive, Twin Valley Food Pantry, the Col. Hardy Memorial Scholarship and Veterans Making a Difference.

The American Legion Riders are motorcycle enthusiasts who belong to the American Legion, the Legion Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion. The community service club supports local charities, including those that benefit veterans.

Club members also take part in parades and patriotic ceremonies. "When possible, we escort funerals, and we participate in Memorial Day services in Morgantown, Elverson and at the post," Seifert said, noting the club has close to 30 members.
