Ryerss Farm Sets Family Fun Day

After a two-year absence because of the pandemic, Family Fun Day will return to Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines on Saturday, June 18, from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature pony rides, food, hayrides, children's games and more. In addition, attendees will be able to visit the retired and rescued horses that reside at the farm.

There will be a variety of children's activities at the event, including a horse-themed bounce house. "We are having a mini carousel with eight horses," noted Lynn Seeburger, a member of the Ryerss board of managers and the event chair. "We also added a Western Roundup obstacle course, which is an inflatable."

"We have a duck pond (game), horseshoe decorating, a treasure chest game and a carrot toss," she continued. "There will be a lot of (activities) for the little kids to do."

Guest artist David Perry will be on-site to create caricatures, and Jessica D'Angelo will offer face painting. "A puppeteer, Robert Mouland, will be located on the hillside and the kids sit around him (for the show). It's very cute to see," Seeburger said.

Admission to Ryerss Family Fun Day is free, but tickets will be sold for activities and games. Donations will also be accepted.

In addition, food will be available for sale, including grilled hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers. "We will have a picnic area where tables will be set up," Seeburger noted.

The Ryerss gift shop will be open, offering equine-related items, such as toy stuffed horses, along with Ryerss T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats. "We are also offering a booth outside with stuffed animals," Seeburger said.

She added that planning for Family Fun Day begins in January, and about 70 volunteers help make the event possible. All proceeds will benefit Ryerss Farm, a nonprofit organization that provides a permanent home to more than 75 aged, abused or injured horses. Horses that retire at Ryerss are never ridden or worked again.

Ryerss Farm is located at 1710 Ridge Road (Route 23), Pottstown. Admission to the event will be limited to the capacity of the site's parking lots.
