United Way Passes Goal

United Way of the Capital Region has raised $8,940,503 to benefit the community, surpassing its goal of $8,931,798. United Way made the announcement at its recent 100th anniversary community celebration.

The 100th anniversary community celebration wrapped up United Way of the Capital Region's yearlong celebration of its century of service. Throughout the year, United Way engaged donors and volunteer, business, and community leaders in the transformational work of the organization.

Five years ago, United Way refocused its work to make a greater impact on the most pressing needs facing the region. Today, the organization sees results through its programs in access to health care, basic needs, school readiness, and workforce development.

At the event, Timothy Fatzinger, United Way of the Capital Region president and CEO, acknowledged the support of the Pillar Society, which consists of organizations that contribute $100,000 or more in combined corporate and employee giving to United Way. This year, the Pillar Society makes up 51% of the entire campaign.

Pillar Society organizations recorded as of May 4 are Alexander Building Construction Company, Country Meadows Retirement Communities, Deloitte Consulting, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Gannett Fleming, Hersha Group, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, Novitas Solutions Inc., Penn National Insurance, Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine, Rite Aid Foundation, State Employee Combined Appeal, UPMC Central PA, and UPS. The $500,000 Club, consisting of organizations donating at least $500,000 in employee and corporate giving, includes Capital Blue Cross, The Hershey Company, and Highmark Blue Shield.
