Unique Antique Truck To Visit Lititz

In 1985, a 1929 Chevy truck was put together using original parts from Texas. A 1930 Chevrolet engine from Christiana was restored for the vehicle, and in 1996, the truck took a cross-country trip, starting with the back wheels in the Atlantic Ocean in Sandy Hook, N.J. Nearly 60 days later, the front wheels touched the waters of the Pacific Ocean near Hollywood, Calif.

On Friday, July 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., that 1929 Chevy, which is operated by a group called the Pennsylvania Hillbillies, will visit the Lititz Historical Foundation, 145 E. Main St., Lititz. The free event will feature one-of-a-kind photo opportunities.

Since the trip across the U.S., when the unusual truck was used to raise funds for Lions Clubs International, the Hillbilly vehicle has appeared in parades and car shows throughout New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland, and it has won awards. The vehicle has also raised funds for veterans organizations, such as the VFW, American Legion, and Wreaths Across America. For a minimal donation, people have been allowed to sign the truck. The truck has helped raise more than $40,000 in donations to Lions Clubs and veterans groups.

While the car is at LHF, guided tours of the 1792 Johannes Mueller House will be offered for a nominal cost. Tours will be given hourly from 5:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Those who would like to know more about LHF may visit http://www.lititzhistoricalfoundation.com or search for "Lititz Historical Foundation" on Facebook.
