Concert To Feature Fire In The Glen

The Akron Borough Sunday concert series will continue with a performance by Fire in the Glen on July 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the Pavilion 2 bandshell in Lloyd H. Roland Memorial Park, located off North 11th Street, Akron. In the case of rain, the concert will be held on Sunday, July 17.

Fire in the Glen is a three-piece band led by Tom Knapp. Knapp, band founder, fiddler and bodhranist, is joined onstage by Amanda Wells on guitar, percussion and vocals and Rod Nevin on Highland bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, pennywhistle, ukulele and vocals. The trio plays Irish, Scottish and Maritimes music, including fiddle tunes, pub songs and occasional airs and ballads. Although drawing mostly on traditional music sources, the band also includes some original songs, such as "Susquehanna Pirate," "From Amish to Irish," "Scots-Irish" and "I'd Stop Drinkin'."

Over the years, the band has shared a stage with international touring acts, including Lunasa, Aoife Clancy, Charlie Zahm, Enter the Haggis, the Young Dubliners and Great Big Sea. Fire in the Glen has recorded albums and has performed at numerous festivals, fairs, concerts and special events.

Admission to the concert is free. Attendees are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and pack a picnic supper.
