End-Of-Life Doula Training Set

Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will host an End-of-Life Doula Training provided by the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) from Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 8 to 10, in the chapel. Jamie Eaddy Chism, director of program development, and Kris Kington-Barker, director of special programs, will teach the course, which includes over 25 hours of in-person instruction and 12 hours of self-study prior to classroom learning.

End-of-life doulas attend to the non-medical aspects of dying and help to bring into focus the depth of life meaning, the emotional and spiritual aspects of dying, and dignity in the final passage. Participants in the training do not need a medical background. Graduates of the end-of-life doula training course may choose to serve the dying as part of a hospice program, in a hospital or care facility, through a community program, in a private doula collective, or independently. This course is also suitable for people exploring the issues of death, dying, and life legacy for their own personal growth and those who hope to care for loved ones when they face death.

INELDA's end-of-life doula training at Garden Spot Village marks the first time in over two years that the organization has offered in-person trainings. COVID-19 necessitated that INELDA adapt its training to an online format in early 2020.

There is a cost for the course, and 40 CEUs are available to nurses for an additional fee. The class size will be limited to 70 people.
