Grammy-Nominated Vocalists To Perform In Washington Boro

Washington Boro will welcome acclaimed vocal group The Martins to the Central Manor Campmeeting, 798 Central Manor Road, on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. The concert will be held in the main auditorium, located in the center of the campgrounds, and will be free to attend. The auditorium is an open-air pavilion that can accommodate close to 800 attendees; guests are also invited to bring their own chairs and sit around the perimeter.

Composed of siblings Judy, Jonathan and Joyce Martin, natives of Hamburg, Ark., The Martins released its debut album, "From Arkansas With Love," in 1989. National and international recognition swiftly carried the trio to success in the 1990s, with performances at The White House, Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry and for various nationwide audiences. The Martins has acquired eight Dove Awards from The Gospel Music Association and three Grammy nominations.

Following their initial foray into the industry as a group, the members of The Martins disbanded to pursue individual music careers. After almost a decade, the siblings assembled once more to release the single "A New Day," produced by Jay DeMarcus of country band Rascal Flatts. The return proved to be only the beginning of a new chapter for The Martins; in May 2014, the group recorded and released the album "A Cappella" with arranger Lari Goss, which included collaboration with producers Michael English, David Phelps and Matthew Holt. The release yielded not only a Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album, but also a Dove Award nomination for Inspirational Album of the Year. Returning to the studio again in 2018, the trio released full-length album "Still Standing," produced by Gordon Mote. This release received the 2019 Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album.

Central Manor Campmeeting has held several concerts in the past, hosting acts such as The Ball Brothers, Larnelle Harris, the National Christian Choir and The King's Brass as part of the yearly Saturday evening concert program. A chicken barbecue will be held prior to the concert at 5 p.m., and tickets will be available at the camp throughout the week leading up to the concert.

Parking will be available at the edge of the camping area, and a limited number of handicapped-accessible spaces will be offered. Although the event is free to attend, an opportunity to make a freewill offering will be presented at intermission. For more information, call 417-230-4944 or visit http://www.martinsonline.com.
