Summer Library Events Planned

Adamstown Area Library, 110 W. Market St., Adamstown, will offer a variety of in-person and virtual programs for people of all ages. To register or view more details, visit http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org/events.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected at all library programs and events throughout the summer to support the Cocalico Food Pantry (REAL Life Community Services).

The Adamstown Area Library will celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program with a cupcake party on Saturday, Aug. 6. The last day for children to hand in forms and receive prizes is Saturday, Aug. 13. Adult Summer Reading will continue through the end of August.

The eighth annual Hit the Links for the Library golf tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Manor Golf Course, 153 Bran Road, Sinking Spring. Proceeds from this event will benefit the library. Registration and sponsorships will be available through Monday, Aug. 15.

The Adult Summer Reading Challenge will continue through Wednesday, Aug. 31. For each book read this summer, patrons should fill out an entry form and place it in the collection jar at the circulation desk. Prizes will be awarded in weekly drawings, and there will be a grand prize at the end of the summer.

The Friends Book Sale will take place on Tuesdays, Aug. 9 to 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library.

Teen SummerZine will meet via Zoom on Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Youths ages 12 to 19 will work with three Pennsylvania authors, who will offer prompts and a real-time look at their writing process.

"Budding Bookworms" Preschool Story Time with Miss Maribeth will be offered on Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Children ages 2 to 5 are invited to enjoy books, songs, activities, and a craft.

REAL Life Community Services will host Young At Heart for anyone age 60 and older on Wednesdays, Aug. 3 and 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. For more information, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Drop-in STEM will be offered on Monday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 5 p.m. The activities will be Lego Club and Balloon Car. Participants will explore science, technology, engineering, and math through games, activities, and projects with Miss Maribeth. An adult is required to accompany children under age 8.

Lego bag pickup for children ages 5 to 12 will be held on Aug. 8, while supplies last. The bag will include instructions for a special project. Supplies are limited, so one bag per family is available.

The Genealogy Group will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The program is for adults and older students who have an interest in researching family history and learning more about online resources for genealogy research.

"Save, Spend & Share" with Mid Penn Bank will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 10 a.m. Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to participate in games, snacks, and activities on financial literacy.

Teen Take and Make Packet Pickup will be held on Monday, Aug. 15, while supplies last. The project for August will be a suncatcher picture.

"Blue Zones" will be presented on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. by nutritionist Kilene Knitter. Adults and teens are invited to learn about Blue Zones, which are areas of the world where people live longer than average, and discuss Blue Zone residents' secrets to enjoying a high quality of life and lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and dementia. Kilene will demonstrate a simple recipe at the end of the presentation.

Adamstown Pool Story Time and book checkout will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. at the pool pavilion. A library card is required to check out books. A pool entrance fee at a discounted rate or membership is required.

The "Cat's Colors" StoryWalk based on the book by Airlie Anderson is available at Adamstown Community Pool. Participants may scan the QR code on the last page for a chance to win a Dave's Diner gift certificate.
