The Columbia Movers and Shakers Society will host the Chili for Charity Cook-Off on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Switchboard Studios & Gallery, second floor, 40 N. Third St., Columbia. Home cooks and professional cooks are invited to enter their chili in the competition.

Winners will be honored in five categories: most spicy, most unique, best home cook, best pro cook and best overall. Each category winner will receive a handcrafted trophy created by the artists at Switchboard Studios & Gallery. Additionally, the Gold Sponsors will award judge's choice plaques.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from this event be donated to the Columbia Food Bank, and the remainder will go toward helping the Columbia Movers and Shakers to file for 501(c)(3) status.

The deadline to sign up as a cook or sponsor is Wednesday, Aug. 24. There is no fee to participate as a cook. For registration details, search for "The Chili for Charity Cook-Off" on Facebook.

Spectator tickets for the event can be purchased at the door the day of the event. Separate ticket prices have been set for adults and for children age 12 and under.
