Leader Center Sets Schedule

The Leader Center for Active Life, formerly the Mohler Senior Center, is open at its new location, 605 Cocoa Ave., Hershey. A number of programs and activities have been scheduled.

Per the center's COVID Plan, all staff members, instructors, volunteers, and center members must show proof of vaccination to participate in programs at the center. Anyone who is unable to be vaccinated must wear an N95 mask, which will be provided. Remote and virtual programming will be available for those who are unable to be vaccinated or wear a mask. Those who feel sick are reminded to stay home and get tested.

Returning programs have been slated. Lunch and Learns, featuring free lunch with a presentation, are held on select Mondays at noon, with Drayer Physical Therapy presenting on Aug. 15 about falls risk factors, exercise opportunities, and ways to improve quality of life. Lunch will be chicken fingers with BLT pasta salad and dessert, and registration is required by Thursday, Aug. 11. Beginners' line dance takes place on Wednesdays at 10 a.m., with doll making on Thursdays at 9 a.m.

Drum Fitness will be held at 11 a.m. and noon on Tuesdays starting Aug. 16, and attendees are asked to register weekly. Pickleball for beginners will start in September on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. in Granada Gym, and registration is required.

New programs have also been scheduled. Campus Crashers, a weekly walking group, takes place on Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. Leader Learns, featuring presentations on a variety of topics, will be offered on select Wednesdays at 2 p.m.; upcoming programs will be "Beekeeping," being presented by K.D. Reese, on Aug. 10; "Leader Learns ... About Silver Sneakers" by Kim Eichinger on Aug. 24; and "Iris Paper Folding" on Aug. 31. The Stretch and Strength DVD will be utilized on Mondays through Thursdays at 10 a.m. Friday Flix, featuring movies on the big screen, will be offered at 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays, and attendees may bring snacks. Upcoming films will be "20 Feet From Stardom" on Aug. 12 and "Respect" on Aug. 26; both will be shown in Mohler Event Room 3.

On Monday, Aug. 29, the book club will meet at 2:30 p.m. to discuss "The Book of Lost Friends" by Lisa Wingate. The Valor and Honor trip will leave at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30.

The Pilates class will continue to meet in person and via Zoom. Friday classes are canceled in August and will resume on Sept. 9. Morning classes are held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Leader Center for Active Life. Evening classes take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Country Meadows' Fitness Center, located in the main building at 451 Sand Hill Road, Hershey. A trip to see "Moulin Rouge" on Broadway has been set for Wednesday, Nov. 2, with the bus departing the Leader Center at 7:30 a.m. and returning at about 10 p.m. The cost includes motorcoach transportation, a traditional Irish lunch, and orchestra-level show tickets. Registration is required as soon as possible.

A "Christmas With the Philly Pops" trip has beeen set for Friday, Dec. 16, with stops slated at Love Park, the Chart House, and the Kimmel Center for the Christmas Spectacular. Departure from the Leader Center will be at 8:30 a.m., with the return at approximately 8:30 p.m. Registration is required by Tuesday, Nov. 1.
