Ware Center Plans First Friday Arts Programs

The Arts at Millersville University We The People First Friday will host an artisan makers' market presented by Lancaster Designer Craftsmen of the Lancaster Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lyet Lobby, 16 local artists will display a variety of works for sale, including fiber creations, jewelry, clay items, wood items, glass textiles, and mixed-media creations. This exhibit is presented by the Lancaster Designer Craftsmen, an organization of artisans who create traditional and contemporary crafts for the purpose of promoting an appreciation of artistry in the craft mediums, providing educational opportunities for the public through shows and fairs, and preserving and advancing the area's creative culture through crafts.

Opening the same evening in the Regitz Gallery will be local artist Anita Pilkerton-Plumb's "Magnetic Aura," a mixed-media collage exhibition that will remain on display through Friday, Aug. 26. The reception will take place on Aug. 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The First Friday opening will feature over 30 individual and collaborative pieces, music, a chance to create a collage at an interactive art station, and more. The gallery is open to the public most weekdays during business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours may vary due to holidays, and the building is closed on weekends. To confirm available times, call the Ware Center during business hours.

Admission to both events is free and open to the public.

Additionally, on stage in Steinman Hall, The People's Shakespeare Project will present "Julia Caesar" on Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 6, at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Separate ticket prices have been set for adults and for students, and tickets may be purchased by visiting http://www.artsmu.com.
