Strength Training Program Planned

Penn State Extension will offer an in-person strength training program, LIFT (Lifelong Improvements through Fitness Together), for adults age 40 and older. LIFT will take place in Lancaster and Quarryville from Tuesday, Sept. 20, to Thursday, Nov. 17.

A free informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Training Room at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. All new registrants and returning registrants who have not participated since 2020 are required to attend. The deadline to register for the program is Sept. 6.

LIFT will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays in both Lancaster and Quarryville. Classes will run from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. Two options will be offered at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, and participants may attend from 9 to 10:15 a.m. or from 10:45 a.m. to noon.

LIFT is designed to promote improvements in functional fitness or the ability to perform activities of daily living with ease. Participants are encouraged to work toward achieving their own goals in a group setting.

Each session will include an active warm-up, eight core strength training exercises, and a cool-down. The program will also include basic nutrition information with an emphasis on increased fruit and vegetable intake.

There is a cost for the program. Some insurance policies may reimburse participants with 80% or higher attendance. Attendees should check with their insurance provider for more information.
