Soprano, String Quartet To Present Concert

Gretna Music will present Susanna Phillips and the Escher Quartet in concert on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna. The program will feature Haydn's "Sunrise," Schoenberg's second quartet for strings and soprano, and selections for soprano and quartet by Dvorak, Respighi, and Handel.

Phillips has sung at the New York Metropolitan Opera for 12 consecutive seasons in almost a dozen roles. She won four internationally leading vocal competitions - Operalia, where she received both first place and the Audience Prize; the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; the MacAllister Awards; and the George London Foundation Awards Competition - and has participated in other competitions, as well. She also performs with orchestras around the world.

The Escher Quartet is composed of Adam Barnett-Hart and Brendan Speltz on violins, Pierre Lapointe on the viola, and Brook Speltz on the cello. The New York-native quartet has toured the United States, Europe, and China; collaborated with the late pianist Leon Fleisher, Latin artist Paquito D'Rivera, and Grammy award-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux; produced CDs; and educated emerging musicians.

Tickets range in price, and the concert will have open seating by section. Various discounts are available. For tickets and more information, call 717-361-1508 or visit http://www.gretnamusic.org.
