Final Friday Theme Will Be "Dog Days Of Summer"

"Dog Days of Summer" will be the theme of Final Friday, to be held in downtown Parkesburg on Aug. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. During the monthly street fair, presented by the Parkesburg Action Committee (PAC), local pet rescues will be on hand accepting donations and showcasing adoptable pets. The event will also include vendors, live music and displays by community groups.

Final Friday events will take place in the 200 block of Main Street, where all the stores will be open for shoppers. Live music will be provided by singer-songwriter Nicole Zell, and food will be available from Smokin' Butler Brisket and BBQ.

Parkesburg Library staff members will offer children's crafts and will sell tickets to the Lancaster Barnstormers baseball game on Saturday, Sept. 17. The sale of tickets is a fundraiser for the library.

Among the rescues that will set up booths at the event will be Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue (LDAR), represented by volunteer April Kenworthy.

"We will be bringing adoptable dogs to the event and hopefully a couple of puppies, if they haven't been (adopted) by then," she said. "We will also have a photo album of (adoptable) cats that people can go through."

Kenworthy will also provide information about LDAR. "At Final Friday, people can ask about our adoption process, volunteer opportunities and becoming a foster. As our rescue is foster-based, we can only accept animals into the rescue if we have good foster homes," she said. "The animals are kept in a family atmosphere, and (from that) we get a great idea of that animal's personality and needs."

Donations will also be accepted. "We are always in need of scoopable cat litter and canned and dry cat food for both adults and kittens," she noted.

Also represented at the event with adoptable dogs will be To Love a Canine (TLC) Rescue, a Chester County rescue that is also foster-based. For more information about LDAR or TLC, visit http://www.luckydawganimalrescue.com and http://www.tlcrescuepa.com, respectively.

Organizations that generally set up tables during Final Friday include the Parkesburg Lions Club; Kacie's Cause, Parkesburg Chapter; and the Octorara Area School District.

Final Fridays take place on the last Friday of each month from April through October. The theme on Sept. 30 will be "Fall Fest," and the theme on Oct. 28 will be "Harvest Moon."

Community organizations and vendors that would like to participate in the Final Friday program are asked to register at https://parkesburg.myshopify.com.
