Library Posts Event Calendar

The Eastern Lancaster County Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is required for most activities. Weekly story time programs will be offered for young children. All programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 will be held on Tuesdays. Toddler Thursdays will be held on Thursdays for children from birth to age 3 and their siblings.

Teen Tuesday Clubs will meet on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Each week, youths age 12 and older will explore a special topic such as STEM, creative writing, arts and crafts, or book discussions.

A Homeschool Curriculum and Book Swap will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. Homeschooling families are invited to find new homes for books they have outgrown, collect new educational materials for free, and connect with other home educators. This will be a completely free exchange. All materials must be contributed without conditions, and people will take materials without charge or conditions on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lego Creation Club will gather on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. Participants will use Lego bricks to build themed creations, which will be displayed in the library.

A Beginning Acrylic Painting Workshop with Jason Ward will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. This introduction to acrylic painting will cover how acrylics work and strategies for using acrylics. There is a materials fee.

Music & Movement will be held on Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. for children from birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver. This musical story time is designed to promote language development and reading readiness skills while providing young children with joyful introductions to a variety of music and music-making experiences.

Hooks & Needles, a yarn craft club, will meet on Monday, Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. Knitters and crocheters will gather to work on projects. Beginners are welcome.

Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will gather on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. for a discussion about "The Book of Lost Names" by Kristin Harmel.

A Constitution Celebration: Community, Cuisine, Costumes, and the Constitution will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from noon to 2 p.m. A special Constitution Day party will feature a potluck lunch, a costume contest, and a dramatic reading of the entire Constitution.

Trivia, Treats, and Tomes will celebrate National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 20. from 3 to 5 p.m. Eligible individuals may register to vote at the event. The event will also feature light refreshments and a trivia contest.

Intro to Health Insurance in Pennsylvania and Pennie.com will take place on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. Topics will be health insurance options in Pennsylvania, ways to reduce health insurance costs, and information about the Pennie.com insurance exchange.

DIY Fake News will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. Attendees will learn how to spot bias, sensationalism, incorrect information, and other errors in different forms of media. Then, attendees will apply what they learned in a contest. The program is designed for teens.

STEM Workshop: Invaders! will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. This program will focus on the invasive spotted lanternfly and challenge participants to come up with their own solutions on how to face the problem. The workshop is best suited for elementary school-age students, but all are welcome.

Buckhill Sleuths' Book Discussion will meet via Zoom on Monday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. The group will discuss "The Boy from the Woods" by Harlan Coben.

An Introduction to Character Design Workshop with Dobe Steigelman will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29. Open to students in grades seven to 11, the program will showcase the building blocks of character design while translating concepts into visuals. There is a materials fee.

Look It Up! Library Scavenger Hunt will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, at 3 p.m. Participants will work to solve a puzzle hidden in books. They will learn library basics and how to find credible information.
