Program To Feature Hymns And Their Histories

Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church (UMC), 404 Hellam St., Wrightsville, will host a performance of "Then Sings My Soul: Beloved Hymns & Songs Inspired by the Ministry of Billy Graham" on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 9 a.m.

"Then Sings My Soul" is an original, 70-minute touring musical presentation featuring professional vocalists and live music by accompanists from Lancaster County. Highlighting historical moments in the Rev. Billy Graham's ministry, the program includes a look at the history behind over 30 well-known hymns, many of which were written as a result of tragic and trying circumstances. Selections include "How Great Thou Art," "I'd Rather Have Jesus," "This Ole' House," "His Eye Is on the Sparrow," and "Amazing Grace." The program also features hymn sing-alongs. The concert's purpose is not just to entertain audiences, but also to educate them on hymns and their histories, share the Gospel message, and honor the memory of Graham, whose life mission was to let people know that God loves them.

"Then Sings My Soul" was written by Kat Prickett, who grew up watching Graham's crusades on television and listening to George Beverly Shea on cassette tape. She began creating "Then Sings My Soul" after Graham passed away in February 2018, and she initially presented one day of performances in a barn at her family's business, The Red Caboose Motel in Strasburg, later that year. "Then Sings My Soul" has now been performed to audiences across Pennsylvania and New Jersey and at Dollywood Theme Park and the DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. A portion of all proceeds every year is donated to The Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, N.C., in memory of Graham.

A freewill offering will be received at Wrightsville Hope UMC, and a light luncheon will follow the event. For more information, visit http://www.thensingsmysoulpa.com.
