Bird Club Plans Meeting

The Lancaster County Bird Club (LCBC) will meet Thursday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. This meeting will not be recorded.

After a short business meeting, a representative of ZooAmerica will present "Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails," a program featuring live animals. Attendees will learn about the adaptations animals use for survival in the wild, including adaptations for defense, foraging, eating, swimming and escaping predators.

A special presentation will occur at the conclusion of the meeting honoring Barbara Hunsberger and her 12 years of service as club president, which wrapped up this past spring. Additionally, board members from Appalachian Audubon Society in Harrisburg will provide an update on the Lights Out Harrisburg initiative that was started in Harrisburg during the spring to protect birds during their migration by minimizing outdoor lighting during peak migration times. Lights Out is a nationwide initiative designed to help provide birds with safe passage between their nesting and wintering grounds.

The meeting is free and open to the public. For more details, call 717-856-3851 or 717-725-2717. More information about the club can be found by visiting http://www.lancasterbirdclub.org or by searching for "Lancaster County Bird Club" on Facebook.
