The POINT To Welcome Dallas Jenkins

The Parkesburg POINT youth center will present "A Night With Dallas Jenkins" on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Octorara Junior-Senior High School. Jenkins is the writer, producer and director of "The Chosen," a television series about the life of Jesus.

According to Dwayne Walton, executive director of The POINT, the multi-season series has an international audience and that a number of churches use the show as a teaching tool.

"It's very well done on a level that we never have seen before," said Walton. "Many churches have been using the series for small groups and Bible studies because it is so realistic. The character work that (Jenkins) has done makes everyone seem so real and accessible, including Jesus. (Sometimes Jesus) is portrayed as otherworldly and you cannot connect with Him."

"The Chosen" currently has two seasons, and the third is expected to be released later this year. Viewers can see the series by downloading "The Chosen" app or watching it on various streaming services.

According to information provided by Jenkins, episodes of "The Chosen" have been watched more than 400 million times, and "The Chosen" has been translated into 50 languages. The show is crowd-funded, meaning that viewers raise money for production costs.

"There is a lot of energy (about the show) around the country, especially with Christians," Walton said. "He is making the Christian story accessible to a whole new generation of people. Some people won't open the Bible or go to church, but they will watch this show."

During the program on Sept. 17, Jenkins will talk about the show, as well as his personal journey. "We will have a question-and-answer session for about 15 minutes," said Walton. "Some questions have (been submitted). Some will be based on our own experience with the series."

Walton noted that event organizers are looking forward to introducing Jenkins to the local community. "We are excited about his story. He has vision that he brings to life," he said.

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit The POINT, a faith-based community center that serves youths ages 8 to 18 in the Octorara and Coatesville Area school districts. The POINT offers after-school programming, daily evening meals, academic support and recreational programs. The motto of the center is "Every Child Deserves Hope."

Octorara Junior-Senior High School is located at 226 Highland Road, Atglen. All tickets must be purchased in advance. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://www.parkesburgpoint.com or http://www.facebook.com/parkesburg.point.
