A Cappella Group To Perform In Park

Vocal Harmonix, an all-female a cappella chorus based in Lancaster County, will perform on Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m. at the Eicher Arts Center, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough's Grater Park.

Vocal Harmonix's repertoire includes both old and new songs, and some of the selections are presented in a barbershop quartet style. One of the 21st-century songs to be performed at the Sept. 25 event is "Never Gonna Let You Down," introduced by singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat in 2014. Vocal Harmonix uses costuming and choreography to add to the enjoyment of the audience, said Lois Smith, one of the two visual leaders of the chorus.

The group previously performed at Eicher Arts Center in 2018, but it modified its activities during the pandemic. Smith noted that Vocal Harmonix members used Zoom to practice their a cappella singing when they were not able to gather on stage together.

Vocal Harmonix practices at the East Petersburg Church, and performances include competitive events for a cappella choruses. The Sept. 25 concert will be the first time Vocal Harmonix will headline a concert for the public in Lancaster County since the pandemic began.

Admission is free. Donations to the Eicher Arts Center Inc. will be accepted.

Weather permitting, the performance will be held outside the Eicher House, and audience members are urged to bring folding chairs. In the event of extreme weather, the concert will be held inside the Eicher House. Audience members may bring protective face masks.
