SWM Fundraiser To Feature The Celtic Martins

Still Waters Ministries (SWM), a nonprofit organization that offers no-fee community counseling services to residents of Chester, Berks and Lancaster counties, recently announced the return of its fall fundraiser. The event, featuring a concert by the Celtic Martins, will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St. (Route 23), Morgantown.

This is the fourth time that the group has been featured during the fundraiser. "We have not had a concert fundraiser for over two years now due to the pandemic. Happily, the Celtic Martins will be back performing," said Jill Waters, who founded SWM along with her husband, Sam. "It is a very popular concert and it's a lot of fun. People love to bring their kids and grandkids. It's a real fun evening for everyone."

The Celtic Martins, a family band from Newmanstown, perform traditional Celtic music, as well as step dancing. The band includes fiddling Martin sisters Emily, Melissa and Christy; brothers Brian on guitar, Zach on fiddle and Alex on drums and fiddle; their dad, Nelson, on guitar; their mother, Elaine, on bass; and drummer Elijah Roeder. There is no admission fee, but a freewill offering will be received. All monies collected will benefit SWM. "October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so this fundraiser is important to our services, since we work hard to keep abused women safe," said Jill.

In addition, Jill's newly released book, "No One Will Ever Know," will be available that evening. "My book is about my own journey through abuse," Jill noted. "I have been working on it for five years. It's been a long project, and I am glad I did it."

She said that her own experience with abuse makes her very relatable to women who seek help from SWM. "I have clients who cover up abuse. They live in fear. I address that in the book," she said, adding, "I can counsel on a personal level."

SWM began offering counseling services at Conestoga Mennonite Church in July of 2012. Help is offered to those dealing with a variety of issues such as anger, depression, fear and anxieties, addictions, self-esteem issues and broken relationships. The ministry also offers an array of services for victims of domestic violence. While the ministry is church-based, counseling services are offered to everyone, regardless of church or religious affiliation.

Jill has been offering virtual counseling for the last two years. Sam and the other counselors offer in-person sessions. "Everyone has their own specialty," Jill noted. "Amy (Stoltzfus) deals with a lot of children's trauma. My passion is for (counseling abused women), and Sam (counsels) men with anger issues."
