GEARS Slates Activities

GEARS will offer activities to the community. Unless otherwise noted, there is a per-person cost, with a discounted rate for GEARS members. To register or for more information, visit http://www.getintogears.org or call GEARS at 717-367-0355.

GEARS will accept registrations for girls and boys in grades one through nine for the BEARS Youth Basketball Program, with practices and games from late November through the end of January. Separate registration fees have been set for students in first and second grades, third and fourth grades, and fifth through ninth grades.

The draft days will be Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. for girls in grades three and four; Nov. 2 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. for girls in grades five and six; Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 7 p.m. for boys in grades three and four; and Nov. 1 from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. for boys in grades five and six. All drafts will be held in the gym at Bear Creek School, 1459 Sheaffer Road, Elizabethtown.

The program for boys and girls in grades one and two will take place on Saturdays at East High Elementary, 800 E. High St., Elizabethtown. Boys and girls in grades three and four will practice one day per week and play games on Saturdays. Those in grades five through nine will practice two days per week and play games on Saturdays.

Bot Builders with Cubelets, for children ages 4 to 6, will be offered on Thursdays, Oct. 27 to Dec. 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the GEARS Community Center, 70 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown. There will be no class on Nov. 24. In this Snapology challenge-focused program, children will work in small teams to solve challenges using modular, robotic cubes.

Machines and Contraptions, for children ages 6 to 9, will take place on Tuesdays, Oct. 25 to Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the GEARS Community Center. There will be no class on Nov. 22. Students will learn about mechanical movement and the importance of simple machines, build physics concepts, and play games.

AtackBots with Spike Prime will be available to children ages 9 to 12 on Tuesdays, Oct. 25 to Dec. 6, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. in the GEARS Community Center. There will be no class on Nov. 22. Students will build a variety of military-inspired robots using the Lego Spike Prime system. They will program commands for the robots and work with a partner to solve challenges.
