Presentation To Examine Military Drums

Historic Rock Ford will host military history and consultant Col. J. Craig Nannos, who is retired from the Army, on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. Nannos will present "A Drumbeat Through History," offering information about historic American military drums and their identification. Specifically, he will focus on the period of 1770 to 1870, which he considers to be the "golden age" of decorated military drums.

This program will be held on the first floor of the Rock Ford Barn. The program includes admission to Historic Rock Ford's special exhibit "Long Rifles of the American Revolution: How Lancaster County Craftsmen Helped Win the War," located in the Snyder Gallery on the second floor of the barn. Wine, non-alcoholic beverages and desserts will be served during Nannos' presentation.

Nannos has extensive experience in museum development of exhibitions and history and/or military consulting. He was committee chairman within the Army Museum System as well as consultant to the National Park Service (Harpers Ferry Center), the FBI and numerous federal, state and private institutions. In addition, he has served as a consultant to numerous U.S. bicentennial celebrations, World War II commemorative programs and historical film productions both in Hollywood and in Europe. He has been the CEO of The Sentry Post for over 40 years. This firm bridges the historical, educational, entertainment and business communities, providing experience for international historical events, museum exhibitions and major film productions. He has worked on various Hollywood productions, such as "Master and Commander," "The Patriot," and "The Last of the Mohicans."
