United Zion Holds Car And Motorcycle Cruise

The parking lot of Lancaster Evangelical Free Church (LEFC) featured vehicles of all types while the air was filled with music and the smell of food during United Zion Retirement Community's annual Car and Motorcycle Cruise on Aug. 11. The event raised almost $9,000 for United Zion's benevolent care, which supports residents who cannot afford care.

Event organizer Megan Weiss noted that participants showed cars, motorcycles, fire trucks and more dating from 1930 to 2019. Paper awards and plaques were given to winners chosen by local celebrity judges, including Ambassador Advisors' Dan Bailey, Rohrer's Service Center's Cole Zimmerman, Seiverling Museum's Darrien Seiverling, Lititz Mayor Tim Snyder, High Sports' Scott High, United Zion board president Jessica Musser, and United Zion CEO Sue Verdegem.

The awards and winners were the following: Best Accessory, Jon Williams, G37 Infiniti, 2013; Best Use of a Flame, Duane Ober, Howe Fire Engine, Open Cab, 1970; Oldest Vehicle, Kent Rebman, Ford A, 1930; Best Engine, Don Spade, Ford Victoria, 1931; Most Unique Vehicle, John Gephart, Chevrolet Greenbrier, 1964; Best Exotic, John and Sandy Crave, Nissan 350Z, 2007; Best Use of a Stripe, Cole Zimmerman, Chevrolet Chevelle, 1970; Best Use of a Fin, Peter Poneros, Cadillac DeVille Convertible, 1964; Family Heirloom, Todd Harpel, Oldsmobile Cutlass S, 1968; Best Restoration, Don Spade, Ford Victoria, 1931; Best Racing Car, Mark and Melissa Petershelm, Chevrolet Nova, 1964; and People's Choice, Kent and Donna Heiser, Chevrolet 3100S, 1954.

The event sponsors and the many volunteers helped to make the event possible. The annual show will return next August and will again offer preregistration and day-of-show registration.
