Cloister Seeking Students Interested In History

Historic Ephrata Cloister, 632 W. Main St., Ephrata, invites students age 14 and over to join the site's Student Historians, a group of young people who join in bringing the past to life.

This club allows students to gain community service experience while engaging in a variety of activities at the museum. This program offers the chance to develop skills in leadership, public speaking, and visitor service, while sharing the stories of the region's heritage with visitors from around the world. Student Historians serve as interpreters in the historic buildings, learn traditional crafts, and have opportunities to form new friendships with peers. One of the group's programs is the annual Lantern Tours, a theatrical experience where students assume the roles of people from the past to bring history to life.

Students come from public, parochial, and home schools to volunteer at the museum throughout the school year. They meet weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
