Faith And Food At Chestnut Level Presbyterian

Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, resumed its tradition of hosting Wednesday night Faith and Food dinners on Sept. 21. Each Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., people are able to purchase a meal for a set price and pick it up at a drive-through window or dine inside the church. The meal includes an entree that is provided by a local business, two sides and one dessert. Meals may be purchased ahead of time by calling the church office at 717-548-2763 and must be reserved prior to the Monday before the meal.

Previously, the church hosted dinners each Wednesday night inside the church, a routine that was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Unable to cook or allow members of the community inside the building, the church administration decided to start having a takeout meal available instead, so that people could stay connected during a difficult time and families in need could still acquire an affordable meal once a week. This is the third year that Chestnut Level Presbyterian has offered Faith and Food meals, and the ministry has been gladly received by the public, with some nights drawing over 250 people.

The meals serve the community in a variety of ways: Busy families rely on the convenience of picking up a prepared dinner as they dart to and from children's sports and dance practices, church members use it as an opportunity to socialize with each other and many regular attendees have dubbed it their "adult happy meal," as a new meal is offered each week. Meals will be offered through the program until Dec. 14, and after a holiday break, the church will resume the meals in January of 2023.

In addition to the Faith and Food meals, Chestnut Level Presbyterian offers youth and adult Bible studies on Wednesday nights and worship services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. A Trunk or Treat will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center parking lot across from the sanctuary. On Sunday, Dec. 11, the church will host the Journey to Bethlehem from 5 to 7 p.m. During the event, shepherds will guide participants through a live Nativity scene set up in the Family Life Center parking lot, concluding with the manger and re-enacting the events around the birth of Jesus Christ.
