Cub Scouts Learn Bike Safety, Maintenance

Cub Scout Pack 97 in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, recently held its first pack meeting of the year. During the meeting, Pack 97 teamed up with Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg.

Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg's mission is to provide all residents of the greater Harrisburg area with access to safe, reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly transportation in the form of bicycles. To accomplish this mission, it collects and restores used bicycles and teaches bicycle repair, maintenance, etiquette, and safety to those who receive its bicycles. The organization also provides safety education and maintenance services at community events and to local organizations, such as Cub Scout Pack 97.

At the pack's recent meeting, volunteers with Recycle Bicycle Harrisburg taught the Scouts and their families about bicycle safety and maintenance; the volunteers even performed some on-site repairs as well as tire air pressure checks. The boys also had an opportunity to ride around and demonstrate their biking skills to burn off some energy.

Boys going into kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to join the pack. Members do not need to reside in Londonderry Township. To learn more about Cub Scout Pack 97, contact Cubmaster Dan Mallinson at 717-471-2489.
