Activities Planned For Hikers

A workday will be held at the JPJ Cabin on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 9 a.m. Jobs are available inside and outside. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served, along with a homemade snack. Attendees should bring a sandwich or snack. For more information, contact Sarah Tateosian at 717-741-2652.

The club will offer a 5-mile hike at Spring Valley County Park on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. The group will meet at the main parking lot, located on Potosi Road. The hike has some ups and downs and at least one stream crossing. Hike leader Mike Berry may be contacted at 717-659-4059.

A group will hike at Harpers Ferry, W.Va., on Saturday, Nov. 19. The strenuous hike of about 8 to 10 miles will include a portion of the Appalachian Trail, hiking by the C&O canal, scenic lookouts and an opportunity to explore the town. There will be an optional dinner stop on the way home. There is a national park fee per vehicle, so anyone with a national parks pass should bring it along. Reservations are requested by contacting hike leader Kim Shue at 717-688-5142. There is a carpool fee, and hikers should meet at the TGIF parking lot off Routes 15 and 97 at 8 a.m.

An easy 3- to 4-mile hike at Nixon Park will take place on Sunday, Nov. 27. Attendees should meet in the lower parking lot at 1:30 p.m. The hike will be canceled in the event of rain, snow or the dark of night.
