The Southern End Community Association (SECA) will hold its yearly benefit auction on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Kreider Building at Solanco Fairgrounds, 101 Park Ave., Quarryville. Doors will open at 8 a.m., a live auction will begin at 9 a.m. and a silent auction will occur throughout the day and conclude at noon. The event will close at 3 p.m.

On Friday, Nov. 11, an auction preview will be available to the public at the same location from 5 to 7 p.m. During this time, the option to leave absentee bids will be available.

All funds from the auction directly benefit SECA and help fund its regular maintenance costs. It is the organization's largest fundraiser of the year; its parks and the SECA pool are two of many projects that will benefit from the auction. Each item that will be auctioned has been donated by a local business or individual, including furniture, kids' bikes and gift cards. "It's a great community event where everybody comes together to help out," said Trevor Marsh, director of SECA.

Marsh became SECA's new director in April of this year and has been involved with the organization most of his life. As a child, he was a member of the SECA pool, and during high school he worked as a counselor at SECA's day camp. Marsh studies sports management in college with the goal of becoming an athletic director, a position he noted was similar to being director of SECA. "It's event planning and organizing, just not only for sports," Marsh said. "It's great to be involved with something that has such a positive influence on the community. I've been here for a bit, but I'm still learning about what we do and getting a good feel for how to move forward."

Among its other ventures, SECA will be involved with Quarryville's Christmas in the Park event on Saturday, Dec. 10. During the festive community event, the organization will run the Christmas tree and gingerbread house decorating contests.
