Library Posts December Events

Adamstown Area Library, 110 W. Main St., Adamstown, will host a variety of free programs and events for children and adults. The library will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24, through Monday, Dec. 26, for the Christmas holiday. The library will also be closed on Saturday, Dec. 31, through Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year's holiday.

The library will sponsor a Mitten and Accessory Tree through Friday, Dec. 9. Visitors are asked to bring in donations of new, unwrapped mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, socks, and more to be distributed to local families and children in need.

A Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots collection box will be located near the circulation desk through Tuesday, Dec. 13. Patrons are encouraged to drop off donations of new, unwrapped gifts for local children in need.

Elf on the Shelf will take place through Tuesday, Dec. 20. Cocoa the Elf is hiding in the library, and visitors who tell the librarian where they saw Cocoa will receive a ticket for a chance to win a basket of prizes. Cocoa will move every day, so patrons can stop in often to claim more tickets.

Winter Reading Bingo will run through Tuesday, Jan. 31. Readers age 18 and older can pick up a bingo card at the library, read books this winter, and enter to win a winter prize basket.

Story time programs will include "Twinkling Stars" Baby Story Time on Thursdays for children from birth to age 2 at 10 a.m., Budding Bookworms Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays for children ages 3 to 6 at 10 a.m., and "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time for children ages 2 to 3 on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Young at Heart, for people age 60 and up, will be sponsored by REAL Life Community Services on Wednesdays, Dec. 7 and 21, from 9 to 11 a.m. For details, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Tech Q & A, offering one-to-one help with devices, will be offered on Dec. 7 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Technology help and software training is also available at other times by appointment.

Chocolate Processing and Sensory Evaluation for adults and teens will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how chocolate is manufactured and practice professional taste testing skills as they evaluate different kinds of chocolate.

Drop-In STEAM will be held on Monday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. for Lego Club and Paper Circuits and Button Making. Attendees will explore science, technology, engineering, art, and math through games, activities, and projects with Miss Jess. An adult is required to accompany children under age 8.

Other activities include Daytime Discoverers at Middle Creek Wildlife Center on Dec. 8, at 1 p.m.; Lego activity bag pickup for children ages 5 to 12 on Dec. 12, while supplies last, with one packet per family; the Genealogy Group on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m.; and the free Teen Take-and-Make packet pickup on Monday, Dec. 19, while supplies last.

Almost Perfect Crimes, for teens and adults, will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Participants will initially receive the Zoom link and the mini murder mystery story. Additional clues and evidence will be revealed during the meeting.

MJWK (Miss Jess Wants to Know) will be held during December with a "Perfect Pet Wars" theme. Teens are asked to stop in the young adult and teen graphic novel book section of the library for the question of the month and to cast a vote for their favorite. Results will be posted on the Facebook page at the end of the month.
