School Presents Monthly Accolades

Lampeter-Strasburg High School has named junior Ellie Young and sophomore Jake Poyer as the Pioneer Superlatives for October and seniors Grace Carson and Anthony Miller-Baum as the Students of the Month.

Ellie is the daughter of Steve and Jennifer Young of Lancaster. The English Department nominated Ellie for active course participation and her lovely personality. Teachers also reported that she is skilled at descriptive imagery and sensory language. Ellie is a member of the orchestra, the Pioneer Interact Club, and the girls' tennis team, and she is scheduled to join the National Honor Society. She was a Burrowes Scholar for English/language arts in fifth grade and is working toward her Girl Scout Gold Award. Additionally, she is part of the LEDC competitive dance team at Willow Street Dance Steps, St. John Neumann Youth Ministry, and Off the Streets, a nonprofit organization that helps families and individuals in Lancaster County find permanent housing. Ellie plans to pursue a career in architecture and journalism.

Jake is the son of Bob and Kristie Poyer of Lancaster. The Science Department nominated Jake for his solid computer science skills, pleasant demeanor, and connection with other students. Teachers reported that Jake is a quiet, focused learner who always strives to do well. He is a part of the concert band, marching band, jazz band, tech crew, and spring musical. He enjoys learning about computer science.

Grace is the daughter of Denise Swengel of Willow Street and Sean Carson. The Social Studies Department nominated Grace for her engagement and showing great interest in her work. Teachers reported that Grace does an excellent job in her studies and extracurriculars. She was a member of the set-building team for the fall play. Grace plans to attend college to pursue a career as a historical anthropologist.

Anthony is the son of Tiffany and Tommy Byers of Willow Street. Several departments nominated him for his engagement, effort, and positive attitude. Teachers reported that Anthony does well on assignments and is encouraging and accepting of other students. He is a member of the chorus, Madrigals, LS News, yearbook staff, Pioneer Interact Club, and WLSH. He plans to pursue a career in photography or cinematography.
