Museum Sets Ramble, Simple Machines Program

Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania will host a Buckeye Ramble to the neighboring state of Ohio from Tuesday, June 13, through Friday, June 16. The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 1.

The Buckeye Ramble will include rides on Pittsburgh's Monongahela Incline, a vintage trolley, the Lorain and West Virginia Railroad, and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The trip will also feature tours of the Age of Steam Roundhouse, the B&O Roundhouse, the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum, the Ernest Warther Museum & Gardens, the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum, and the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.

The cost of the trip will also include three nights' lodging, three breakfasts, three lunches, and dinners, and the services of a travel escort. The Buckeye Ramble brochure/registration form is at http://www.rrmuseumpa.org.

Additionally, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 Gap Road, Strasburg, will host Virtual Simple Machines and the Railroad on Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. During the program, designed for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, children will learn about six simple machines and how they make up larger machines on the railroad. Through demonstration and active participation, they will discover how each simple machine makes a task easier through design. Children will be encouraged to find examples in their home and in their everyday lives. There will be time for questions at the end of the program.
