ELANCO Library Calendar Posted

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is required for most activities. Two Winter Reading Challenges will be held at the library through Saturday, Feb. 25. Winter Reading Bingo is open to individuals from birth through age 18, and the Reading Royals Slapshot Challenge is open to children ages 5 to 15. Patrons may participate in either one or both to win special prizes. Challenge logs are available at the library.

Preschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 6 will be held on Tuesdays, and Toddler Thursdays will run on Thursdays for children from birth to age 3 and their siblings. Both programs will start at 10:30 a.m.

Teen Tuesday Clubs will meet on Tuesdays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Each week, youths age 12 and older will explore a topic such as STEM, creative writing, arts and crafts, or book discussions.

Read Aloud with Pepper will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7. Children of all ages accompanied by a caregiver are invited to read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever.

Music & Movement will be held on Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. for children from birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver. This musical story time is designed to promote language development and reading readiness skills while providing young children with joyful introductions to a variety of music and music-making experiences.

Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion will meet at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, to discuss "The Daughters of Kobani: A Story of Rebellion, Courage, and Justice" by Gayle Tzemach Lemmon.

Hooks & Needles, a yarn craft club, will meet on Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Knitters and crocheters will gather to work on projects. Beginners are welcome.

Read with Royalty! will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. 2022 New Holland Fair Queen Kendell Moats will visit the library and provide an agricultural informational session featuring read-alouds and a craft. The event is best for children ages 3 to 9 with a caregiver, but all are welcome.

"New Year, Fresh Start: Parenting Like a Minimalist" will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 11 a.m. Local entrepreneur and educator Mara Pritchard, founder of The Beautiful Sort, will share strategies for managing the toys, children's clothes, and spaces in one's life. She will also cover approaches to organizing spaces to encourage long, imaginative play, decluttering and donating unused toys while including kids in the process, encouraging (but not forcing) letting go, maintaining good boundaries, and setting an example. The program is designed for parents, caregivers, those who work with children, and anyone who has made a New Year's resolution related to making their living or working space more functional, welcoming, and peaceful.

The Lego Creation Club will gather on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. Using Lego bricks, participants will build themed creations that will be displayed in the library.
