Larry And Joe To Present Folk Music Blend

Larry and Joe, consisting of folk musicians Larry Bellorín and Joe Troop, will perform at the Zoetropolis Cinema Stillhouse, 112 N. Water St., Lancaster, on Sunday, Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Susquehanna Folk Music Society, the concert will aim to promote a message of unity between the Appalachian and Venezuelan folk music traditions.

Bellorín hails from Monagas, Venezuela, and is a legend of Llanera music. He was forced into exile and is an asylum seeker in North Carolina, working construction.

Troop is from North Carolina and is a Grammy-nominated bluegrass and old-time musician. After a decade in South America, he was stranded in his old stomping grounds during the pandemic. Troop's "Latingrass" band Che Apalache was forced into hiatus, and he shifted to working with asylum-seeking migrants.

Currently based in the Triangle of North Carolina, both men are multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters on a mission to show that music has no borders. As a duo, they perform a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass, and whatever else they decide to throw in the van. The program they offer features a distinct blend of their musical inheritances and traditions as well as storytelling about the ways that music and social movements coalesce.

In order to keep this concert affordable for all, all ticket prices are suggested donations, with discounts for SFMS members and for students ages 3 to 22. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.sfmsfolk.org.
