Hiking Club Posts Calendar

The York Hiking Club will host several events in January. Hikers are encouraged to monitor the weather forecast and dress appropriately. For details, visit http://www.yorkhikingclub.com.

A 3- to 4-mile hike will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Nixon Park, 5922 Nixon Drive, York, on Sunday, Jan. 15. Participants will meet in the lower parking lot. For details, contact Allen and Lore Britton at 717-825-5552 or loralhiker@gmail.com.

A covered dish dinner and a talk on the Appalachian Trail will be held on Friday, Jan. 20, at the York Township Park Building, 25 Oak St., York, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Gwen Loose will speak about the three women who helped to start the Appalachian Trail.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, a 4.5-mile hike will be offered just south of the Mason Dixon Line near Parkton, Md. Participants will hike on the Northern Central Railroad Trail called the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail along the Fourth Mine Branch of Little Falls Creek. Participants should meet at the York Vo-Tech off Queen Street, York, or at the trailhead. Hikers will depart at 1 p.m. There will be a nominal carpool fee for those meeting at the Vo-Tech. For details, call Sarah and Lou Tateosian at 717-741-2652.

A 5-mile circle hike through Codorus Park will be held at 9 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29, including the Mary Anne Trail. Hikers will meet in the parking lot at Codorus Park Campground off Dubs Church Road. For details, call Andrew Bankowski at 410-493-3150.
