First Capital FCU Supports Local Charities

Employees at First Capital Federal Credit Union (FCU) supported two charitable causes in the community during the holiday season.

Employees took part in YWCA York's Adopt-A-Family program. Each year, First Capital FCU is given a family, and employees pitch in to purchase specific items the family needs.

On Dec. 6, 2022, the gifts were delivered to the YMCA by Lisa Barshinger, community and business development manager; Tara Houser, vice president of marketing and business development; and Danielle Nelson, human resources manager.

The Adopt-A-Family program helps families that participate in YWCA York's child care or youth programs or that are using the organization's domestic violence and sexual assault services.

On Dec. 21, 2022, First Capital FCU staff members delivered donations to the Lehman Center for the Children's Aid Society. All items, from food and drinks to toys and crafts, were collected and donated by employees during December.

The Lehman Center offers emergency respite care for children from newborns through 6 years of age in a 24-hour crisis nursery. It also provides child-centered creative art therapy, family advocate services and parent educational and support groups.

Lisa Day, First Capital FCU executive assistant, noted that the donations will be used to support children through art therapy or to help in the crisis nursery.

First Capital FCU, based in York, has more than 20,000 members. Founded in 1954 as S. Morgan Smith Credit Union, First Capital has merged and grown, and it works closely with 700 companies and organizations throughout York County and across the country.
