Lions Club Presents Awards

The Lower Swatara Lions Club recently presented two awards.

Club member Edward Miller received the Melvin Jones Fellowship, which is presented to those who have made a tremendous contribution to humanity and to the legacy of Lions Club founder Melvin Jones. Miller has been a member of the club since 1988. He served as club president in 2005 and has been club membership chairman for over 13 years. He was instrumental in helping the club obtain grants for clubhouse maintenance, which had been affected by the COVID pandemic. He also serves as a mentor to old and new members of the club.

In recognition of Law Enforcement Appreciation Week, the Lions Club presented its 2023 Police Officer of the Year Award to Sgt. Scott Young, who has been a member of the Lower Swatara Township Police Department for over 24 years. He also serves in a supervisory capacity with the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team and is employed part time by the Shumaker Public Safety Center at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College as an instructor for the Municipal Police Officer Training Academy.

The Lower Swatara Lions Club is part of Pennsylvania District 14T, which is a segment of the larger body Lions Club International. Since 1974, members of the Lower Swatara club have volunteered their time to serve the Middletown and Lower Swatara communities, meet humanitarian needs, and promote understanding. New members are welcome.
