Celebrate Seuss At The Library

He's given us Thing One and Thing Two, Sam I Am and Cindy Lou Who. Now you can honor the man behind these characters at Celebrate Seuss. The event will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 3, at Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy.

Celebrate Seuss is an opportunity to mark the birthday of Dr. Seuss, and it will provide fun for the whole family, said Jan Betty, director of children and youth at the library. "People will come in and pick up their treasure bag in the community room, and then they'll be sent out into the library to follow a path to different activity stations," Betty explained. Activities at each station will be for people of all ages, she noted, adding, "They can be tweaked to be more challenging or less challenging, depending on the age of the child." Although the activities will be geared toward children, Betty encourages families to participate in Celebrate Seuss together. "The whole idea is to be together as a family and to have fun as a family," she shared.

Along the way to activities, participants will meet a variety of Dr. Seuss characters, including the Cat in the Hat, Horton, the Fox in Socks, the Grinch and Gertrude McFuzz. Characters are made possible due to sponsorship by the Kiwanis Club of Norlanco-Rheems, Betty said, and club members will be on hand to help with the event. Members of Donegal High School's Key Club and Donegal Junior High's Builders Club will also volunteer at the event.

Betty said it's been a year of growth for the library, noting, "We have had a huge influx of new families coming into the library in the past year." Events like Celebrate Seuss bring families together for a fun evening out, she said, noting that the Seuss program replaced a green eggs and ham breakfast the library held pre-pandemic.

"Celebrate Seuss is a great time for all ages," Betty said. "We're all about family here at the library, and this is a fun, family event. It's a nice time to get together with others in your community."

Tickets for Celebrate Seuss are on sale at the library and are available for specific start times to reduce crowds during the event. For more information, visit https://mslibrary.org.
