The Lionville Middle School (LMS) Musical Theater organization has grown over the last two and a half decades to present full-length Broadway musicals for the community, with a cast and crew ranging annually from 75 to 130 students.

This year, LMS Musical Theater will present "Fiddler on the Roof" as its spring production. Show dates and times are Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m.

"Fiddler on the Roof," based on the short story "Tevye and His Daughters" by Sholom Aleichem, first hit the stage in 1964. The production presents a story of everyday life in a Jewish community, set in the pre-revolutionary Russian village of Anatevka in 1905.

Through the eyes of Tevye, played by Christian Awad, audiences are transported into a lively, tight-knit village steeped in faith-based tradition. Together, Tevye and his wife, Golde, played by Ray Hoster, have five daughters: Tzeitel, played by Lucy Farrelly; Hodel, played by Avery Quay; Chava, played by Page Warfel; Shprinze, played by Lorella Dougherty; and Bielke, played by Becca Blevins.

The story revolves around Tevye's struggles with his daughters, who want to move from the idea of arranged marriages to exploring partnerships built on love. Tzeitel announces her pledge of engagement to Motel, played by Kasyup Tumuluri, and Hodel chooses to leave the home she knows to join Perchick, played by Christian Giancaterino. Chava explores partnership outside of their faith in her association with Fyedka, played by Hunter Luzak Tevye shows his strength of character as he struggles with his convictions and his love of his daughters.

At LMS, the musical director is Stephanie Reimners and the drama director is Karen Guidas-Sidorick. The production crew includes Shauna Brown, stage management; Kenneth Fisher, choreography; Tim Sidorick, set design; Jonathan Carter, set construction; Stephanie Farrelly, costumes; and Carroll Frantz, parent producer.
